The Islamic integrated education programme (IIEP) is one of the strategies in implementing the ecd programme specifically to the Muslim populated areas. The programme has invested Kshs 1,500,000/- (USD 12,000) in an endowment fund for sustainability purpose. Endowment fund has been done through Kenya Community Development Fund. More Details

Recently we have strengthened our library department by offering FREE internet services to the library users for research education and community development.
Secondary school holiday tuition
Apart from the holiday tuition we have started a continuous evening remedial programme for the secondary school drop outs, so as to encourage them pursue their secondary school education by enrolling as private candidates for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary education (KCSE) exam.
Promotion of Girl Child Education
MEDA promotes girl child education through its Women
Desk. The Women Desk visits schools for discussion with girl students. It encourages and counsels girls on education & social issues and plan women forums to forge way forward on advancement of the girl child.
Secondary School Bursary Scheme
The Programme was initiated with a view of assisting bright needy students. An average of 40 secondary school students benefit annually. Discipline and Performance are monitored regularly in order to guide the students to achieve their academic excellence.
College/ University Revolving Fund
At MEDA different professional fields are sponsored in relation to availability of funds. Courses are prioritized according to the community needs with teaching profession ranked at the top and granted fully sponsorship. Other courses are sponsored partially. Beneficiaries are obliged to sign a contract for interest free repayment of the funds after completion of the course. An average of 10 students benefit annually.

Career Guidance & Counselling
MEDA has established a permanent desk for parents and students information & guidance on education. In addition to the information and counseling desk, workshops on career guidance are also organized and attract many students from various schools in the district. As a result, a number of students are attached to different local & international institutions annually. We can strengthen the dept by conducting regular workshops through corporate and individual sponsorship which we appeal for.
Professional Training
A) Computer Training Department
It started in the year 2000 and is located within MEDA centre. It offers computer packages and maintenance & repair course. Courses are handled by qualified tutors.
Currently we have 10 computers which are not enough to cater for the high demand in ICT courses, we therefore appeal for more computers and training materials (books, CD's, training manuals etc)
B) Nursery School teachers in-service training
It was established in the 2003. It offers in-service training courses for ECD teachers at different levels. It offers certificates and diploma courses.
Due to the success of our centre, two new ECD school teachers in service centers were started in the year 2005 in malindi district.
C) Accounts & Secretarial courses
Due to the effects of drug abuse and tourism in malindi, many youth were affected which led to unemployment and moral degradation.
As a remedial measure to the situation, a skills training programme was started.
Nusra Technical Training Institute was established in 2005. It is situated in the Kenya Industrial Estate (K.I.E) shades opposite Malindi Airport. It offers technical training on Electrical, Electronics & Welding and Fabrication. It has reputable full time training manager and instructors. With the support of the ministry of youth affairs, five teachers were posted to the institute to strengthen the existing courses and starting two new depts. (clothing and automotive).with an average number of 20 students in each department.
D) Technical Training courses for school leavers

Youth Job Placement & Micro Finance Program
The centre is credible to potential employers within and outside Malindi. Employers seeking professionals sent their advertisement to MEDA. Advertisements on job opportunities are disseminated to youth. Consequently; a number of our graduates are attached to different trade establishments. In addition to that a micro finance program is in progress to empower the youth economically.
We have recruited 75 youth to undergo a youth empowerment programme where at the end of their programme they will join the micro finance dept to save and access credit with interest free loans.
Youth Peer Education on HIV & AIDS and Drug Abuse Awareness Program
The Programme was initiated as education was directly affected by HIV& AIDS pandemic and Drug abuse. Hence, an awareness programme is implemented by using Video Projector during outreaches. A youth football team formed is also used to sensitize its team members and the spectators during football matches.
MEDA also has a Peer Education program and ambassadors of change (AOCs) for the youth in ‘Maskans’ youth bases. The Programme targets youth out-of- school. They are reached through magnet theatre, dissemination of Information Education Communication (IEC) materials, one-one peer education and group sessions at the Maskans. This programme covers eight zones in malindi, namely shella, maweni, barani, majengo, kisumu ndogo, msabaha, gede and watamu. Where two hundred youth have been trained as volunteers for the programme. due to the limited funds available to sustain and increase more volunteers to reach more people, we appeal for more sponsorhip of this programme.
